Bring along your toothbrush & Have a good time

At Total Care Dental Boutique, we encourage our patients to bring along their home oral hygiene kit to their exam and hygiene appointment. Be it your toothbrush, floss, piksters, toothpick or whatever you use to clean your teeth at home.

We all know our cleaning routines can influence the health of our teeth, so allow us help, we love it after all! Bringing your kit helps us to watch, review and demonstrate together practical ways of how you can improve your technique for better long term oral health.

With the aid of technology and high definition images, you can see for yourself those hard to reach places.

We value the importance of providing some tips and tricks, and aim to always do more for our patients so this extra service does not involve any additional fees on your exam and hygiene appointment.

The advantages of preventative dentistry

Most dental emergencies come from lack of regular professional care and long term improper self care. During your hygiene visit at Total Care Dental Boutique, we will review your lifestyle, your dietary habits and help to identify areas of potential concerns and at-risk areas so that we can work together to improve your home care techniques with practical & do-able solutions.

The best way to deal with a problem is to prevent it from starting. When a problem is detected, it is easier and more cost effective to fix when it is small.

It really depends on your current dental health, lifestyle, and dietary habits because everyone is different.

Most of us can maintain excellent oral health with dentist visits at every six month. A few of us who are susceptible to gum disease or suffering active gum conditions may need three monthly visits to help control their periodontal condition

Your occupation, food habits, self-care ability, and medical conditions will determine how often you need to see a dentist. You can consult with our dentist to work out a custom care plan that suit your situation.
In nearly all of your routine dental exam and hygiene appointments, you do not need dental X-ray.

At Total Care Dental Boutique, we strive to minimize radiation exposure for our patients. We do this by investing in DIGITAL radiograph for both intra-oral and Orthopantomogram (OPG) machines. The exposure should you need it will be extremely low. It is equivalent to radiation exposure you have flying somewhere on an airplane for 1 or 2 hours.

We have also invested in equipments to help early detection of dental decay such as MICROLUX Transilluminator 2 and ORASCOPTIC Dental Loupes.

You can refuse x-ray and we will respect your decision. However, when your dentist recommends a dental x-ray, it means they need to conduct further check to ensure earliest intervention for your health outcome.
We believe flossing is as important as brushing because:
  1. Nearly half (50%) of your teeth surfaces touch other teeth where even the best brushing cannot reach
  2. Teeth decay frequently starts in between teeth where people can’t see and thus don’t clean properly
  3. Germs thrive between your teeth, under your gum with the lack of day light and oxygen

And also because your dentist flosses everyday.

By using floss or inter-dental brushes or whatever specific solutions recommended by your dentist at Total Care Dental Boutique, you can:
  1. Prevent tooth decay
  2. Prevent gum bleeding and gum disease progression
  3. Prevent bad breath

What if flossing hurts and make gum bleeding?

Gum bleeds when they are inflamed from accumulation of plaque and calculus under the gum line.
If flossing is done correctly everyday, gum becomes healthier and around the 7th day, it will not bleed anymore.
We have tried nearly all tooth brushes and toothpaste available on market and we worked out that: the most expensive toothbrush or toothpaste on the market is not necessary the golden solution.

Our dentists are happy to provide recommendations of what is the most appropriate types of dental products suited for your dental health. We have a broad knowledge of electronic and manual toothbrushes, flosses, interdental cleaners, mouthrinses and toothpastes including specialised toothpastes for those with special needs.
Everyone deserves a fun and enjoyable visit to their dentist and Total Care Dental Boutique team strives to deliver the best experience to all of our patients.

The Australian Dental Association (ADA) recommends children to pay a visit to the dentist within 6 month of their first tooth appearing or at the latest at the age of one.

Private Health Cover ("Dental Extras") varies greatly depending on your chosen funds and level of cover. At the start of your appointment, we can provide you with an instant quote by swiping your private health card.
